September 3, 2009 brought out all of the staff of the Atlantic City Schools to be recognized for a job well done! The ACPS is now out of a "District in Need of Improvement" status to one of NCLB Adequate Yearly Progress for two consecutive years. The students have fantastic teachers and support staff who are the catalyst for this improvement. We want the students to continue to have all the tools necessary to maintain the consistent academic improvement.
With that in mind, an idea was born! Celebrate this success with a "Brown Bag" luncheon for the staff. The Atlantic City Education Foundation supported this idea not only with monetary funds to make this happen but also with good old fashion hard work. Members and volunteers spend two days gathering and stuffing bags. A special thank you to Frank Formica of Formica Brothers Bakery, for his generous donation of 1000 rolls.
As an extra added treat, staff members were entertained by the incredibly talented ACHS Band under the direction of Mr. Darryl Robinson. For alot of us, it was the first time to be able to appreciate such a fantastic ensemble. Also congratulating the staff were the Mayor of Atlantic City, Honorable Lorenzo Langford, Senator James Whelan, Superintendent Fred Nickles, Assistant Superintendent Donna Haye and our own fearless leader, Anne Rosenberg.
Many, Many Thanks to the Staff and the ACEF for all you do!
It was the perfect combination of great weather and "illustrious" golfers, all for the benefit of the children of Atlantic City Public Schools. Following the Tournament, the luncheon provided an opportunity to share stories, laughs, win prizes and accept the Foundation's thanks for a truly commendable effort. We raised over $18,000 for scholarships and mini-grants. We would also like to express our thanks and appreciation to all those whose donations made our auction a success as well as those who sponsored the tournament with generous contributions, and least we not forget, The Mays Landing Golf & Country Club for providing us with a well organized and very enjoyable event.
We have a tentative date of JUNE 1, 2010 for the next outing. SAVE THE DATE! Saturday, May 16, 2009 2009 Annual Luncheon Atlantic City Hilton
